The community of Mira Loma is located near the 60 and 15 freeways. It is an unincorporated area of the
city of Riverside in Riverside
County. In the early 1930's, the area developed agriculturally as dairies and wineries began
flourish. Now, there are few dairies and wineries left. In fact, the Hettinga Family once owned a
Ranch located on the property at Bellegrave and Etiwanda Avenues, on what is now Jurupa High School and the 91752
zip code area. It's newer residential developement, on the western side, is known as
Eastvale.
Rancho Jurupa was originally granted by the Mexican government to Juan Bandini in September 1838. In 1882,
Mira Loma was known as Stalder. Then in sequence, it was known as Mountain View, Pleasant Valley, Union,
Union Joint and finally Wineville. It was changed in 1931 to Mira Loma by which it is still known today.
Mira Loma is also in the "Jurupa" area of unincorporated Riverside County. It is separated from the city
of Riverside by the Santa Ana River to the south, borders
the Ontario/Fontana
area of San Bernardino County to the north and
west, and Pedly/Glen Avon to the east. It is an historic Spanish barrio.
